Channel 4 has officially signed a deal with developer Cubex to confirm its intention to locate its new Creative Hub at Bristol's waterfront quarter Finzels Reach.
The broadcaster announced advanced negotiations with Cubex in April, and has confirmed the move just as the first phase of Finzels Reach is almost complete.
The hub will be based at the Fermentation Buildings, which have been home to several famous breweries over the years, including Courage Brewery before it closed in the 1990s.
Commissioning departments at the new Creative Hub in Bristol will include drama, factual and popular factual, as well as creative diversity that supports on and off-screen diversity.
This news also follows recent announcements that Historic England, English Heritage and creative studio OUTLAW will be joining Channel 4 in the Fermentation Buildings.
Finzels Reach is being created in the heart of the city by developer Cubex with funding from Palmer Capital, and will include new homes, offices, leisure space and a hotel.
Award-winning Bocabar announced in May it is planning to open a new restaurant at the Fermentation Buildings, on the ground floor beneath Channel 4.
The waterside quarter also offers independent businesses such as Spicer+Cole café, which opened in February, and a new brewpub opened in June by brewery Left Handed Giant - where the venue has teamed up with Bristol pop-up Mission Pizza.
Bristol’s first major build-to-rent scheme Hawkins & George was also launched in June offering 194 apartments, including studios and one and two-bedroom homes.
Gavin Bridge, executive director at Cubex, said: “It is immensely satisfying to see six years’ hard work begin to come to fruition and the neighbourhood come to life. We’re so pleased to have been able to secure such a strong range of independent leisure businesses at Finzels Reach, where they will be able to provide a strong social hub for the people living and working here, as well as attracting people from the surrounding area.”
